Martin McKenna
Martin has been a Director at Smith & Kennedy for the last 15 years and has been responsible for a variety of projects for both the Department of Education and the Department of Defence, along with commercial and private clients. These involve new build projects and extensions to existing buildings, including protected structures, ranging from €3 million to €14 million. The more recent projects were; Castlepark School; Newpark School; St Brendans College; Scoil Lorcain; 86-90 Sandymount; and the DSPCA. Martin is also a Director of Kompas International Architects and was responsible for setting up their office in Bahrain and Brazil.

Previously Martin worked in the USA and the UK where he was a founding Partner in Fraser Brown MacKenna Architects before returning to Ireland in 2000.

He is experienced in all aspects of design, procurement, project management and contract administration.

Personal Interests: Martin enjoys travelling and is an avid collector of books.

Martin and Lynda, also an architect, have two sons and a daughter.

Joe Kennedy

Joe is Managing Director of Smith and Kennedy Architects and Joint Managing Director of Kompas International Architects. In addition he is Honorary Secretary of the R.I.A.I for 2015 and 2016 having served as a Council Member in 2014. He chairs the Building Control Steering Group in the R.I.A.I and is heavily involved in Building Regulatory matters.

Joe retains a direct involvement in design and delivery of projects and has extensive experience in Educational, Residential and Commercial sectors.

Personal Interests: Joe is an enthusiastic painter and enjoys playing blues / jazz guitar. He plays golf badly.

Mark Curran

Mark is a Director in Smith and Kennedy Architects having joined the practice in 1999 after having gained experience with both Burke Kennedy Doyle and Murray O’laoire Architects. Mark has gained a wide range of experience in both the public and private sectors with developments including high end residential, hospitality and schools. Mark is a Director of Kompas International Architects and has in this capacity worked on a number of projects abroad including resort developments in North Africa, Brazil and the Czech Republic.

Personal Interests: Art, classical guitar, sport (spectator) and aviation.

Gemma Healy

On qualifying Gemma joined RKD architects where she worked on university projects including the New Veterinary College UCD. In 2003 she joined DMOD architects where she was promoted to Associate. She developed a particular expertise in commercial fit-out and was the project architect on the award winning Well Professionals Studio and Irelands first BER A1 rated apartment scheme, the Watermint, Cabinteely. In 2006 she was awarded a postgraduate diploma in Construction Law from Trinity College. Gemma joined Smith + Kennedy Architects in 2009, where she is now an Associate. Recent experience includes Annabeg Nursing Home and the Fitout at EU House, Mount St.

Joe Kennedy is the Principal and Managing Director. Martin McKenna is the Director with responsibility for Financial Overview and Mark Curran is Director and Company Secretary with responsibility for IT and administrative procedures.

Gemma Healy, Gerry Doyle and James Walsh are Associate Directors.

Gemma is a Project Architect who takes responsibility for office CPD, and has a postgraduate diploma in Construction Law.

Gerry is a Senior Architectural Technician. He has vast experience in major construction projects in Dublin and takes charge of Construction design and detailing, and specification writing in the office. He also holds expertise as a Thermal Assessor.

James ensures that the practice is current in relation to ever changing regulatory requirements and developments in building technology. James is also a BER assessor.

There is a vibrant group of Architects, Technicians and Administrative staff who form the rest of the Team.
