Project Description: Conversion of an existing Ice House (a protected structure) to a Boutique Hotel and Spa on long narrow waterside site.
Recipient of a Conde Nast award in 2008 along with a listing on Irelands’ exclusive ‘Blue Book’ the Ice House Hotel and spa has made a name for itself. Located in Ballina, Co. Mayo, on the East bank of the river Moy, this 32 bedroom boutique hotel and spa has successfully blended a restored 150 year old Victorian house steeped in local history with contemporary new buildings.
Praised for its stunning design, which has brought a contemporary edge to this historic building that once stored the ice for what was then Ireland’s principal sea port, The Pier restaurant at the Ice House boasts stunning views across the River Moy to the woods opposite, from a breath-taking glass atrium. The challenges of building on a tidal river bank called for some innovative thinking and has resulted in a particularly unique design which now brings activity back to the river and breathes new life into this venerable house.
